Nominate a worthy candidate for World Food Prize or the Borlaug Field Award 2018

The World Food Prize is awarded for a specific, exceptionally significant, individual achievement at any point along the full range of the food production and distribution chain.
The next round of nominations will be due May 1, 2018.
Fields of achievement include, but are not limited to: soil and land; plant and animal science; food science and technology; nutrition; rural development; marketing; food processing and packaging; water and the environment; natural resource conservation; physical infrastructure; transportation and distribution; special or extraordinary feeding programs; social organization and poverty elimination; economics and finance; policy analysis; and public advocacy.
- This exceptionally significant achievement must be shown to have resulted in a demonstrable increase in the quantity, quality or availability of, or access to, food for a substantial number of people.
- It must be clearly shown that this increase was the direct result of the specific actions and activities of the nominee (i.e., without his or her specific accomplishment, no change would have occurred).
- The impact of this achievement must be measurable, quantifiable, or otherwise demonstrated either in terms of reduced poverty, hunger, or suffering; or enhanced health, nutrition, quality of life and well-being.
- The number of people affected as well as the extent of the change they experienced will be a substantial factor in evaluating the relative significance of the various individual achievements being considered.
- Substantial weight will also be given to the complexity of the problem solved and the degree of difficulty involved in achieving success. Similarly, consideration will be given to the degree of ingenuity and determination involved in attaining this change or advancement. (...etc.)

The Dr. Norman E. Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, endowed by the Rockefeller Foundation, is presented every October in Des Moines, Iowa, by the World Food Prize Foundation.
The deadline for nominations each year is June 30.
This $10,000 award recognizes exceptional, science-based achievement in international agriculture and food production by an individual under the age of 40 who has clearly emulated the same intellectual courage, stamina and determination in the fight to eliminate global hunger and poverty as was demonstrated by Dr. Norman Borlaug as a young scientist working in Mexico in the 1940's and 50's.
Dr. Judith Rodin, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, announced during the 25th World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony in 2011 that her Foundation would commit $1 million to endow this annual award in honor of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, whose early work in Mexico was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation.
The award diploma incorporates the image of Dr. Borlaug at work in the fields of Mexico, as shown on the left. The image was created by artist John Collier and hangs as a tapestry in the Hall of Laureates.
The award presentation is appropriately held in the historically preserved and environmentally renovated World Food Prize Hall of Laureates. This $29.8 million project restored the century-old Des Moines Public Library and transformed it as a special tribute to Nobel Peace Prize winner and World Food Prize founder Dr. Norman E. Borlaug.
The individuals chosen to be recipients of the Borlaug Field award are selected by an anonymous international jury, chaired by Dr. W. Ronnie Coffmann of Cornell University. Dr. Coffmann, who was Dr. Borlaug's only graduate student, serves as a member of the World Food Prize Council of Advisors.
